Strategic Planning Process

The planning process for Charting the Course: A Strategic Vision for Boise State University began in January 2005. From February through April, more than 600 Boise State University faculty, staff and students participated in 30 focus groups and provided input via the Web to collectively define the opera-tional vision of Boise State University as a Metropolitan Research University of Distinction.

With this vision clearly defined, the planning work continued into the fall of 2005 with a Planning Team of 40-plus persons, representative of university faculty, staff and administrators. They collected data to assess the current situation, and developed goals and strategies to attain the vision. Using hundreds of interviews, Web input, focus groups, and data, the Planning Team outlined the strengths and challenges of the university and identified potential opportunities.

These analyses resulted in five key areas the university needs to enhance in order to achieve its vision. Those areas that define the background on which to chart the course. The Planning Team then developed 10 goals that would broadly define accomplishments, conditions, or results to be achieved in or-der for the university to fulfill its mission and achieve its vision. The strategies further defined the Plan by suggesting actions.

In April 2006, the Planning Team completed its work. It is the expectation that divisions, colleges, departments and units will create their own action plans and projects in support of the goals and strategies of the plan.
